There is no difference in the effectiveness of metal versus clear brackets. The main differences are cost and how they look during your treatment.

The cost of metal brackets are less than clear ceramic brackets due the different materials used. This will usually be the most cost effective option for straightening your teeth. Metal brackets with coloured rubber band have become very popular with younger people.

Some people however prefer to have an option that is more discreet, and near invisible ceramic brackets allow for this. The wires and rubber bands used are also tooth coloured to make sure everything blends in.

Some sort of retention will be required indefinitely to ensure you teeth don’t relapse back to their original position. There are two types of retention, fixed and removable.

A fixed retainer is a wire that is attached to back of your front teeth to prevent them from moving.

A removable retainer is similar to a mouthguard that you wearandkeeps your teeth in place. It should be worn at all times for a initial period after the end of your treatment and then reduced to night times thereafter.
